CHFA Approved Homeownership Training Class
Our CHFA approved class will help you to determine how much home you can comfortably afford, budget for the upfront and ongoing expenses of homeownership, recognize how your credit relates to home buying, understand the different mortgage financing options, learn about real estate contracts and the loan closing process and become familiar with home inspections.
Certificate
- You will receive a certificate for completing this class.
- To receive the certificate, you must be present for the entire day. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns regarding being present for the full day.
- A photo ID is required to obtain your certificate.
- The certificate is often a requirement for local affordable purchase and down payment assistance programs and may be required for various types of loans or other first-time home buyer programs and options.
- The certificate is often recognized for a 12-month period of time from the date of class completion.
Preparing for the Training
During the class, there will be a mortgage prequalification activity. You can better prepare for this activity by gathering the following information about your household. You will not be sharing any of this information.
- Monthly (or weekly) gross income
- Total minimum monthly debt payments such as:
- Credit card payments, car payments, student loan payments, child support payments
- Any loans/borrowed money
- Auto, home, personal, credit cards carrying balances, line of credit (does not include rent, utilities, insurance)
